Enabling Zen Beacon on ZenTrack Asset Trackers
Written By Philip Stanoev
Overview
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for enabling Zen Beacon KKM family BLE beacons to work with ZenTrack asset trackers. Once configured, the asset tracker will scan and forward BLE beacon signals to the ZenduOne platform for live tracking and monitoring capabilities.
Prerequisites
Required Components
Active ZenTrack Asset Tracker: Device must be installed and actively communicating on ZenduOne platform
Zen Beacon (KKM Family) Devices: Target beacon devices must be powered on and operational
DMS Portal Access: Administrative access required for sending configuration commands
ZenduOne Platform Access: Appropriate permissions needed for beacon registration and data monitoring
Implementation Process
Step 1: Send BLE Enable Command via DMS Portal
Command Configuration
To enable BLE beacon scanning on the ZenTrack device, send the following command through DMS Portal:
Command: BLEBEACON,3#
Function: This command enables the ZenTrack to start scanning for BLE beacon signals specifically in KKM family format.
DMS Portal Command Execution
Access DMS Portal device management interface
Navigate to device command section
Click "Send Commands" option
Select target devices from device list
Enter command
BLEBEACON,3#in command fieldExecute command transmission
Step 2: Add BLE Beacon on ZenduOne
Beacon Registration Process
Once BLE scanning is enabled on the tracker:
Navigate to Beacon Management: Go to ZenduOne β Assets β BLE Beacons
Initiate Beacon Addition: Click "Add New BLE Beacon"
Configure Beacon Details:
Beacon ID / MAC Address: Enter unique beacon identifier
Name/Label: Assign descriptive beacon name for identification
Beacon Type: Select "KKM" from available beacon types
Save Configuration: Complete beacon registration
Purpose: This registration process ensures data from the ZenTrack tracker is properly associated with the correct beacon asset for accurate tracking and monitoring.
Step 3: Wait for Data Transmission
Data Appearance Timeline
After completing setup configuration:
ZenTrack Scanning: Device begins scanning and transmitting nearby BLE beacon data to ZenduOne
Data Verification: Monitor beacon data under Assets β BLE Beacons β Live Data
Timeline Expectations: Data appearance may require several minutes depending on device reporting interval and signal strength conditions
Testing and Validation
Verification Checklist
Beacon Power Status: Ensure beacon is powered and within effective range of asset tracker
ZenTrack Connectivity: Confirm ZenTrack device is online and recently reported to platform
Data Timestamp: Check last seen timestamp for BLE beacon in ZenduOne interface
Signal Strength: Verify adequate signal strength between beacon and tracker for reliable data transmission
Troubleshooting Guide
Common Issues and Solutions
Advanced Troubleshooting
Command Verification: Ensure DMS Portal command transmission was successful
