Camera online but no trip data from its Geotab device: check for a stray space
Written By Vishal Singh
Symptom: a camera linked to a Geotab device is online, and the Geotab device is reporting normally, but no trip data comes through for the camera.
Likely cause: a blank space before or after the Geotab serial number in the camera's configuration. The serial number is entered in the camera's third-party serial number field, which links the camera to its Geotab device. A leading or trailing space in that field can silently break the link even though both devices look healthy.
Fix
Open the camera's settings and find the third-party (Geotab) serial number field.
Check the value for any extra space before or after the characters.
Remove the space and save.
Confirm the serial number is otherwise correct, with no typos.
This has happened more than once, so check it first before assuming a deeper connectivity or hardware problem.
