Why a single trip can send many after-hours or speed alert emails

Written By Vishal Singh

A single trip can trigger the same rule several times. Each time the trip meets the rule's condition (for example, going over a speed threshold, or driving after hours), the rule fires again and sends another alert email. This is expected behaviour, not a bug: a long trip that keeps crossing the threshold generates repeated alerts.

How often this happens depends on the rule's sensitivity and its event (effective) time setting.

What controls how often a rule fires again

  1. The rule's speed threshold. A lower threshold triggers more easily, and so more often during a trip.

  2. The event (effective) time setting. This controls how long a condition must last, or how much time must pass, before the rule can fire again. It can be set up to 600 seconds. A higher value makes the rule less likely to fire repeatedly for the same ongoing condition within one trip.

How to reduce repeat alerts on a single trip

  1. Open the rule in Admin > Rules.

  2. If the speed threshold is more sensitive than your normal operations need, raise it.

  3. Increase the event (effective) time setting, up to 600 seconds, so the rule doesn't fire again too often for the same condition during one trip.

  4. Save the rule and watch the next few trips to confirm the alert volume has dropped.
